Job Description

We are looking for a lead life insurance underwriter to drive our automated underwriting and product governance functions. Working in support of our automated instant-issue life insurance application platform, you will have three main areas of responsibility:
 

• field underwriting support – answering u/w-related questions from our customer support team, advise on agent training and informational materials;
   
• post-issue audit support for our carrier clients – reviewing underwriting performance of our engine and third party data sources; and
   
• underwriting innovation – continuous improvement of our underwriting model, including rule tweaks, assessment of new data sources, and analysis of their real-world interactions/performance in our underwriting model. Future state may also include desk underwriting of digital applications referred for additional underwriting, including the review of underwriting files and APS’s.

This role will work closely with our carrier clients - including Chief Underwriters at multiple carriers – and our agent field force. Internally, you will collaborate with our front-line helpdesk team, data and analytics, and our product department. You must have strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.

What We’re Looking For 

• 5+ years experience as Life Insurance underwriter
• Experience working with automated underwriting engines preferred
• Experience with common underwriting data sources used including Milliman Irex, LexisNexis Risk Score, MVR, LabPiQ, Sherlock, MIB, or others.
• Experience with product development and field underwriting support highly desirable
• Appetite for underwriting innovation! Experience with improving/developing underwriting manuals, updating rules, developing new standards ideal
• Strong knowledge of the life insurance industry and a thorough understanding of the industry business processes and products.
• Self-starter mind-set with a passion for building great products. 
• Roll-up-the-sleeves attitude to get things done both individually and with the help of others across the organization. 
• Ability to think independently and to find solutions with limited guidance and resources. 
• Qualitative and quantitative analytical skills 
• Strong written and oral communication skills
